Spooktacular Halloween Blog Hop

Ah, Halloween. That magical time of year when the veil between the living and the Otherworld is at its thinnest and there are spooky thrills abound. Everyone, from the time they're old enough to go trick or treating, loves this time of year, right? Well...maybe not everyone. Allow me to introduce myself.

Yep. That's right. The Paranormal Author that regularly writes about Vampires and Werewolves is a big, fat

Scaredy Cat

And, I know EXACTLY who to blame because it all started with this guy.

Freddy Krueger

I remember it like it was yesterday. I was nine or ten and, miracle of all miracles, we had HBO! Around Halloween, I was able to sneak in my Mom's room to watch the scary movies I'd been dying to see.
I watched Fright Night first. It wasn't that bad...okay, yes it was. It scared the bejezus out of me! But that was nothing, NOTHING compared with the mother of all horror flicks, Nightmare on Elm Street. Watching that movie was the biggest mistake of my life! I'm not exaggerating when I say that I got maybe 4 hours of sleep a night for the next three years.  Every time I went to bed, I was terrified, convinced that Freddy would suck me into his dream world through my bed and slice me up with that glove of his. Best of all, I had this cute, little rhyme to keep me company until I finally fell asleep mentally exhausted.

Thankfully, now I'm older and a lot less scared (okay, marginally less scared) than my nine year old self. Today, my fears include, but aren't limited to, wondering if there's someone behind me in the shower (The Grudge), worrying that a demon is going to jump out of the closet (Sleepy Hollow), and being scared that I'll lose a limb to razor sharp blades if they hang off the bed (The Cell).
That's not too bad when you consider the amount of horror movies I've watched. Seriously, I'm surprised I sleep at all.

See?!? There's a demon in the closet. I knew it!

I bet you're wondering what a self-proclaimed scaredy cat does to celebrate Halloween , aren't you?
Well, I'll tell you! I celebrate Halloween in ways that don't give me nightmares.

The Halloween episodes of the sitcom, Roseanne
(I love her!)

Decorating Pumpkins!
(I'm allergic, but that's a whole other nightmarish topic)

And last, but certainly not least,

(Lots and lots of candy!)

So, there you have it. Roseanne, pumpkins, and delicious candy are what makes my Halloween a lot less scary and whole lot more awesome! I hope that your Halloween is too!

My Favorite Authors - Julie Cassar

Authors that I love!

I love a lot of authors—A LOT of authors, but there are a select few that I read over and over again, while waiting impatiently for their next release. These are the authors that I hold dear to my heart and want to share with my friends...and anyone else who will listen. For the next couple of months, I'll be doing just that. This post kicks off a series of blog posts introducing you to the authors and the books that take me to the worlds I love so much. Hopefully, you will feel the same.

The first offering I bring to you is The Ruby Blue Series by Julie Cassar, my pick for favorite Young Adult Fantasy!

This four book series is perfect for young and old alike. Below, you'll find out a little about each of the three books that are currently available. The fourth book, Forever Blue, will potentially release in a week! I'm on pins and needles to see how the series will turn out, though a teensy bit heartbroken that it's coming to an end.

Ruby Blue - Book One

Meet Ruby. She’s your average (somewhat dorky) ice-cream eating, garden-loving teenager, who is constantly being annoyed by her little brother, is best friends with possibly the only Goth kid in town and, oh yeah…she sees fairies.
After Nick Martino (possibly the hottest guy she’s ever known) finally asks her out, she can barely manage a two-word sentence when a bizarre incident strikes their lakeside town.Stumbling bare-foot through some interesting dates, will she ever find love? And what does Ruby do when more strange events continue to occur? Will she keep her gift of Fairy Sight a secret? As an ancient myth unfolds and new mystic fairy tales come to life, Ruby and her menagerie of friends tackle some extraordinary circumstances with her very ordinary abilities in this modern day fairy tale. Readers will delight in this funny, romantic fantasy tale sprinkled with the magic of first love and modern-day fairy tales. See what legends come to life in “Ruby Blue,” a young adult fantasy fiction novel and the first installment of the Ruby Blue series.

Deja Blue - Book Two

Ruby's back with her fairy friends and this time,  she stumbles upon some of the mysteries of the Water Court. Now, being pursued by an unknown force, Ruby's fairy friends step in to protect her. However, trouble seems to follow Ruby around every corner and even her fairy guardians need to call in reinforcements...but at what cost?  Faced with a seemingly impossible challenge, Ruby must decide if and how she will help out her fairy friends. Will she pledge her allegiance to the Earthen Court? Or will she find new comfort and protection in the Water Court? Become entangled and entranced in Ruby's latest adventure and relive the magic in "Deja Blue," the second installment of the Ruby Blue Series.

Sky Blue - Book Three

Something strange is brewing in Lake City… as the summer comes to a close, Ruby finds herself caught in a torrent of trouble when a stranger blows into town. Relationships are put to the test, lines are drawn and a choice is made when the ways of the Royal Sky Court rain down upon Ruby and the gang. Weathering through a storm of secrets, spells and yet another life-changing adventure… who will survive in its wake? Find out just what mysteries are revealed in this third, magical installment of the Ruby Blue Series!
